He also shot two other women the same night. The shooting happened outside a home in the Westpark neighborhood near Broadway Road and Miller Road on May 14.

‘This could’ve been prevented’

Another young woman said she reported the suspect’s threatening behavior to police, but nothing was done about it.

“This could’ve been prevented a long time ago. My heart hurts for her and her family and just thinking that could’ve been me,” Chianne Brown said. Brown is now 19 years old but dated Michael Sanchez when she was 17.

During our interview, you could see the fear in Brown’s eyes as she thought about what could have happened to her while she dated Michael Sanchez.

Sanchez is facing three counts of first-degree murder after police said he shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend, Rylee Montgomery. She was 16 years old.

Sanchez is accused of shooting two other women. One was also pregnant. She was forced to give birth prematurely and the baby didn’t make it.

The third woman is still fighting for her life in the hospital.

It was a horrific act of violence that Brown and her mom say could’ve been prevented.

“He was threatening to hurt me, harm me, because I wasn’t answering the phone,” Brown said.

Brown added that Sanchez physically abused her, too.

Brown explained that she called the police about Sanchez twice.

Once, Sanchez allegedly made threats through text messages and sent a picture of himself holding a gun.

“The first time we talked to the cops was when we were reporting the text messages,” Brown said.

Brown says she called police a second time after Sanchez showed up at her home, to which officers responded.

“He was throwing something at the door and was taking bricks from the house and throwing it at the door. The police said he was going end up killing someone in jail or dead. But then another cop we talked to said he didn’t seem that capable of doing that, they weren’t taking it seriously,” Brown said.

Brown’s mother did not want to be identified by name but says she’s thankful her daughter made it out of that relationship with Sanchez alive.

Now she’s searching for accountability.

“My goal for this whole thing is there has to be a way that things of this nature, especially with youth, of course for adults too, but starting with the youth, is domestic violence; it has to be nipped in the bud. It can’t be swept under the rug, because look how this ended. So tragically,” Brown’s mother added.

After talking with several families who had run-ins with Sanchez and filed police reports, there seems to be a pattern. Arizona’s Family has requested the police report for this case.

We have previously reported that the victim in the shooting, Rylee Montgomery, tried to report Sanchez’s behavior to police several times, but detectives said there was not enough evidence to support a crime.

Sanchez is due back in court Wednesday.
