BUCKEYE, AZ (AZFamily) — A teenager and her unborn baby are dead, and two others, including another pregnant teenager, are in the hospital after a shooting in Buckeye on Thursday night.

The suspect has since been taken into custody.
The shooting happened outside a home in the Westpark neighborhood near Broadway Road and Miller Road around 8:15 p.m.
According to police, 16-year-old Rylee Montgomery’s on-again, off-again boyfriend, 18-year-old Michael Sanchez, shot and killed her and their unborn child.
Sanchez is also accused of shooting two of Montgomery’s friends, a pregnant 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old woman. Both are in the hospital fighting for their lives.
Carissa Planalp of the Buckeye Police Department said two men were seen running from the scene before officers arrived.
Early Friday morning, Planalp confirmed Sanchez was taken into custody at a home near Dysart Road and MC-85.
Sanchez was booked into a Maricopa County jail on two counts of first-degree murder, endangerment and interference with a monitor device. He’s being held without bond.
Montgomery’s family said she loved animals, makeup and the beach.
“She sees the good in everybody and [has a] heart of gold,” said Amy Montgomery, Rylee’s stepmother.
The teenager was 14 weeks pregnant with a baby girl she’ll never have the chance to meet.
“She did not know it was a baby girl. We’re going to have a gender reveal on the 7th of June to tell her,” said Amy.
Amy said her worst nightmare is now her reality.
“It’s like somebody ripped my freaking heart out,” said Amy. “She was so scared of him, and we tried to get her help.”
Amy said Sanchez hated Rylee’s other pregnant friend because she tried to break them up.

“I think [22-year-old victim] was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I definitely think he went there with full intention on killing both [17-year-old victim] and Rylee,” said Amy.
Before the murder, Amy said her family contacted Buckeye and Avondale police more than once because they said Sanchez kept threatening to kill Rylee.
They feel like law enforcement did little to protect her.
“He sent her a picture of himself with a gun pointed at his head and a text telling her ‘I’m going to get you and then I’m going to take care of myself.’ So, she called Avondale Police and told them, added it to the report and that was the last I heard from her. And then three hours later, she was gone,” said Amy.
At the time of the murder, Sanchez was wearing an ankle monitor because court documents state he fled from police and crashed his car after a road rage incident in March.
“I hope and pray that they charge him with the max and he gets what he deserves. It’s never going to bring her back. You know, we’re left with just memories,” said Amy.
Amy said the 17-year-old victim delivered her baby Thursday night at 25 weeks. She said he’s a little boy weighing just 1 pound and he’s also fighting for his life.
Another sad part of this story, Amy said Rylee’s mother is also in the hospital right now learning how to walk again.
She said Rylee was driving her mother and brother earlier this month when someone, distracted by the Hazen Fire in Buckeye, t-boned them.
A GoFundMe page is helping raise money for Rylee’s family.
Planalp added that gun violence doesn’t happen often in Buckeye.
“So we take every shots fired, every weapons offense, every weapons misconduct situation very seriously in hopes of preventing something like this,” Planalp said Thursday as the shooting was being investigated. “So it’s tragic today that we have one loss of life and two individuals who might have a long road of recovery ahead of them.”
