George Randall, 25, was booked for attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Chandler Police were called out around 4:30 a.m. to a home near Elliot and Alma School roads. A woman was found seriously injured and rushed to a hospital, while Randall was detained at the scene and later arrested.

During his initial court appearance Friday evening, a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office alleged that Randall stabbed his mother in the side of her neck while she was asleep on the couch. She reportedly passed out due to blood loss and nearly died, but her condition was stabilized after surgery.

“This appears to be a completely unprovoked attack,” the prosecutor said. “He indicated to law enforcement that he had been thinking about killing his mother for weeks and intentionally chose the location to stab her so that he would do the most damage.”

The judge granted the state’s request for a $1 million cash-only bond, based also on the family’s concern about Randall’s mental health.

“We are concerned that he is a very dangerous person and could possibly harm other people,” the prosecutor added.

Randall is expected to be back in court later this month.
