TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – As University of Arizona students move out for the summer, the U of A is bringing back its Dorm Rummage Sale for the first time since 2018—giving the Tucson community a chance to score low-cost items while keeping usable goods out of the landfill.

The university partnered with ACE Recycling to collect and sort items left behind in dorms, aiming to teach sustainability through reuse and recycling.
“These items, the students use them for about eight months and that’s it, so they have a wonderful life left in them,” said Dr. Jill Burchell, who is the University of Arizona Senior Coordinator of Sustainability Operations and Initiatives.
Shoppers can browse clothes, accessories, and household items this weekend. Next weekend, the sale expands to include furniture collected from nearly 600 dorm rooms being refurnished. Non-perishable food donations will be available to take for free, and toiletries and cleaning supplies will also be for sale.
“It’s a really a great opportunity for us to give back to the Tucson community, to not only give them an opportunity to get cheap items but keeping it out of the landfill and that’s the most important part,” Dr. Burchell said.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit low-income and first-generation students, helping cover a portion of their first-year rent.
The Dorm Rummage Sale runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. this weekend and next weekend, while supplies last, at ACE Recycling on Eisenhower Road. Admission is free.
