Man arrested in connection with brutal homicide in homeless tunnel in Pima County

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A man has been arrested in connection with a brutal homicide in a homeless tunnel in Pima County.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said 22-year-old Niccolas Allen Coleman was arrested on charges of first-degree murder and possession of drug paraphernalia on Wednesday, May 13.

During his first court appearance on Thursday, May 14, the judge set his bond at $250,000, even though the state asked for a $1 million bond.

According to the interim complaint, a man was found dead in a drainage tunnel near West Ina Road and North Shannon Road on Feb. 4. The man had been living in the tunnels and was found on his bed with blood on his face.

Investigators said there was a broken wine bottle with blood on it, as well as multiple garments that had been cut and stained with blood. The victim suffered blunt force trauma and had been strangled, according to the Medical Examiner’s report.

Investigators said Coleman had been staying with the victim in the tunnels a few days before the assault.

Coleman allegedly told at least one person he had attacked the victim after finding child pornography.

His next court appearance is a preliminary hearing set for May 26.
