The Sahuarita Police Department said a bear was spotted napping in a tree in the Rancho Sahuarita area on Tuesday, June 2. The SPD said the 911 caller told them the bear had been seen in the Green Valley area earlier in the day.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department responded before tranquilizing and safely relocating the bear.

Earlier in the day, a bear cub was spotted in the Vail area. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the cub was seen near homes in the area of East Windswept Way and South Shalom Drive in Vail, and Game & Fish was notified.

On Sunday, May 31, a bear was spotted near Interstate 19 and Continental Road in Green Valley.

Game and Fish said it believes the bear spotted in Sahuarita and Green Valley on Tuesday is the same one spotted in Green Valley on Sunday.

Arizona Game and Fish has warned that bear sightings would become more common in the coming weeks due to the heat and drought.

Game and Fish said that if anyone sees a bear, they should call 623-236-7201.

Bear sightings are nothing new for southern Arizona and should come as no surprise to anyone.

The Tucson Police Department made news last year after a video of them helping remove a bear from an eastside home went viral.

The TPD said it was helping Game and Fish with a bear near Broadway and Kolb. While the bear was unharmed, its hard fall after being tranquilized had people talking. You can see the video below.

Also last year, a bear cub made international news when it went on a stroll at a grocery store in Oro Valley.

Not finding everything it needed at the Fry’s, the cub later visited a nearby Starbucks.

A few hours later, the same cub was spotted at Rock Ridge Apartments, which was about half a mile away from the grocery store.
