NASCAR team member suspended indefinitely after being accused of hitting 77-year-old with golf cart

CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) — NASCAR has suspended a team member indefinitely after she allegedly intentionally hit someone with a golf cart at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend.

NASCAR’s weekly penalty report, published Wednesday, showed Evanna Howell, 35, was suspended indefinitely for a “behavioral” incident.

Cabarrus County court records revealed Howell was arrested on Saturday.

An arrest warrant alleged that she used a golf cart to assault a man. She was charged with assault with a deadly weapon causing serious injury.

A Concord police report revealed that the alleged incident happened Saturday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The report said the 77-year-old man suffered a “severe laceration.”

Court records showed Howell was released from the Cabarrus County jail on Tuesday after posting a $125,000 bond.

Howell’s LinkedIn page identifies her as a senior account manager for 23XI Racing, which is co-owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. According to her profile, she has been with the team since 2021.

Both NASCAR and 23XI Racing were contacted for more information, but neither had responded as of this writing.
