Phoenix firefighters were called to fight the fire in a neighborhood near Cave Creek Road and Greenway Parkway around 4:15 a.m. Firefighters arrived and found three vacant buildings fully engulfed in flames.
The response was upgraded to a second-alarm due to the size of the fire, with roughly 90 firefighters called to contain the blaze. Handlines and elevated streams are being used to douse the flames.
A spokesperson with Phoenix Fire says crews are in a defensive position, meaning they will not enter the buildings out of the safety of firefighters.
“…we will not risk the lives of firefighters for what is already lost,” a spokesperson said.
