Man accused of attacking girlfriend’s husband with metal bat in Food Lion parking lot

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF/Gray News) – A man is accused of attacking his girlfriend’s husband with a metal bat after the husband followed him across state lines.

Raymond Jett, 60, allegedly drove from North Carolina with his three children to follow his wife and her boyfriend, 59-year-old Edward McGill, according to police.

While Jett’s wife and McGill were inside a Food Lion in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jett left a note on McGill’s windshield.

When McGill walked out of the grocery store, Jett ran up to him and the two started arguing, according to an incident report.

Jett punched McGill, and the two continued to fight, according to police.

McGill ran to his car and got a metal bat, according to the incident report. Police said multiple videos show McGill chasing and hitting Jett in the head, shoulders and neck with the metal bat until Jett fell to the ground.

McGill continued to hit Jett around the head while he was on the ground until a bystander intervened and took the bat, according to an affidavit.

McGill continued to fight Jett until police arrived.

McGill was arrested at the scene and was charged with attempted murder.

Jett was also arrested and charged with third-degree assault and battery and three counts of unlawful neglect of a child. In his mug shot, he appears to be wearing a neck brace.

McGill is booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with a $300,000 bond.

Jett is no longer listed at the Myrtle Beach Jail.
