Phoenix police announced Thursday the arrest of 26-year-old Andrew Castanon-Espitia in the murder of 37-year-old Cheyenne Richard Amestoy.
Around 2:30 a.m. on April 14, police responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Cave Creek Road north of Sweetwater Avenue. They arrived to find Amestoy suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a hospital but died of his injuries.
Police said no one else was in the home when officers arrived, and suspect information was limited.
Over the following weeks, homicide detectives gathered evidence that police said linked Castanon-Espitia to the crime. He was arrested Tuesday during a traffic stop in the area of Cave Creek and Bell roads, about two miles north of the shooting scene.

Police said officers found him with a large amount of illicit drugs. He was booked into a Maricopa County jail for second-degree murder and drug possession.
Investigators have not said what may have led up to the shooting or if the two men knew each other.
