HAVASUPAI, AZ (AZFamily) — The federal government is increasing its aid money to the Havasupai Tribe to help them recover from 2024’s deadly monsoon flooding.

FEMA announced Friday that President Donald Trump has increased the federal cost share for disaster aid to the tribe from 75% to 90% of eligible costs.
The extra funding will help repair damaged roads, trails and other infrastructure and pay for projects meant to reduce the risk of future flooding.
On Aug. 22, 2024, up to three inches of rain fell on the Supai area, raising the water level in nearby Cataract Creek from one foot to eight feet in 15 minutes.

The Arizona National Guard was deployed and helped rescue more than 100 people who were stranded. The heavy rain continued for another day and caused major damage to the village, campground and trails.
