The arrest happened on the morning of May 29 in Shelby. The video appears to show Shelby Officer Karson Hyder take a woman, identified as Cherrie Moore, to the ground before he throws several punches at her.
Hyder and another officer eventually got Moore handcuffed.
A doorbell camera recorded the incident.
The next morning, Shelby Police Chief Brad Fraser announced that Hyder had been fired.
On Monday, court records showed that the 22-year-old Hyder was arrested and charged with assault inflicting serious injury. Hyder turned himself in and was released from custody shortly after, records show. His bond was set at $10,000.

The warrant for Hyder’s arrest alleged that he hit Moore in the face with a closed fist, and possibly broke her nose and busted her lip.
“I want to be clear that the inappropriate use of force is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by myself, the Shelby Police Department, or the city of Shelby,” Fraser said Friday. “We understand the concerns this instance has caused within our community, and want to assure the public that this matter is being taken seriously.”
The Shelby Police Department said it conducted its own internal investigation. State investigators were also asked to review the case.
