TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – One southern Arizona school district has issued a warning about a viral trend that is making the rounds.

The Sunnyside School District sent a letter to parents about the “Cat in the Hat” trend.
The trend features a sinister version of the Dr. Seuss character.
It has sparked safety concerns at schools across the country.
Below is the letter sent to families in the Sunnyside School District.
Dear Sunnyside Families,
We want to make you aware of a concerning social media trend that has recently begun circulating in communities across the country. The trend involves AI-generated or altered images and videos of the “Cat in the Hat” character accompanied by threatening language or references to schools and communities.
We are aware of circulating posts that reference some of our schools. District Security is working closely with school administrators and law enforcement to assess the content and determine its source. As with any potential threat, we are taking this matter seriously and following established safety protocols. The Tucson Police Department has confirmed that there is no evidence to believe that this is a credible threat to our schools.

We are sharing this information districtwide because similar posts can spread quickly or lead to copycat behavior. Please speak with your child about the seriousness of creating, sharing, or engaging with threatening content online. Even when intended as a joke or participation in a social media trend, these posts can cause significant fear, disrupt learning, and result in school disciplinary action or criminal consequences.
If you or your child encounters one of these posts:
- Do not repost, comment on, or share it with others.
- Take a screenshot and preserve the username, date, and time.
- Report it immediately to a school administrator, law enforcement, or District Security
- Use the social media platform’s reporting tools to flag the content.
Please remind your child: Report it. Don’t repost it.
The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We will continue monitoring the situation and will communicate directly with families if additional information or action is necessary.
