According to court documents filed in Dallas County, Rice tested positive for THC and was taken into custody for violating the terms of his probation.
The terms of his probation were set after his role in a six-car crash on Easter Sunday in March 2024.
Rice was ordered to serve 30 days in jail as a result of Tuesday’s arrest. That 30-day sentence had previously been issued on July 17, 2025, when he pleaded guilty to a trio of felony charges.

At the time of Rice’s guilty plea last July, he issued a statement apologizing to the victims.
“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas. There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole,” Rice said. “I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
Rice’s 30-day jail sentence, which will keep him in custody until June 16, 2026, means he will miss the Chiefs’ OTAs and mandatory minicamp this offseason as he enters the final season of his rookie contract.
