Police release more details about deadly car fire near Kolb, Escalante

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – More details are coming out about a fatal car fire near Kolb and Escalante in Tucson from late Friday, June 12.

The Tucson Police Department said a person died in the fire, which started in the passenger area of the vehicle.

The TPD said the driver was alone in the car when it was quickly engulfed in flames. The victim’s next of kin has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

The TPD said that since there is nothing suspicious or criminal, the department is not releasing the victim’s name. 13 News has requested the autopsy and toxicology reports.

What’s Up Tucson? and others posted disturbing videos from the scene. In at least one of those videos, you can hear the car horn going off before stopping. According to several posts, the victim was a man in his 20s who was wearing a blue hat.

You can also see several people stopping to try to help by either getting the victim out of the vehicle or calling 911.
