Arizona DPS said the truck driver who died was a 62-year-old man from Fontana, California.
DPS said there was an intense fire in the cab of the vehicle, and investigators are having to use dental records to confirm his identity.
A man and a woman who witnessed the horrific crash told 13 News’ Ashley Bowermann the truck driver saved their lives with his final maneuver.
Amanda and Raymond Cota said they were headed home on I-10 when they saw the tractor-trailer’s front passenger-side tire blow out.
“We were right at the tire of the semi; it was right by our driver’s window when it popped,” Amanda said. “And then he just started veering towards us, and I saw him grab the wheel to correct the blowout.”

The driver steered the truck away from the Cotas and into the concrete median, where it flipped and caught fire.
The car hauler was carrying 10 vehicles, some of which were EVs. At least two of the EVs then caught fire and smoldered for hours.
The Tucson Fire Department told 13 News’ Katherine Patteron that it was a test of their tools and that EV fires are a dangerous challenge for any department.
The road reopened Thursday morning, May 14.
