Police were called to the reported pedestrian crash around 2 a.m. near 57th Avenue and McDowell Road, just north of Interstate 10. Officers arrived and found the victim, Jose Reinaldo Cabrera, 36, seriously injured and unresponsive near the road.
Phoenix firefighters pronounced Cabrera dead at the scene. Authorities believe he was crossing the road mid-block when he was struck by a silver Toyota Camry.
Investigators say the driver, Camry Bridges, 27, stayed on scene and showed signs of impairment. Bridges reportedly had her 7-month-old child in the car with her at the time of the collision.
She was booked on one count of aggravated DUI. Police say the child was not injured and was released to other family members.
