PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police recovered the body of a hiker at South Mountain Park on Tuesday after he had been missing for four days.

The hiker was a man in his 70s and frequently hiked the area, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities are withholding the man’s identity until his family is notified.
The hiker’s body was found Tuesday at 2 a.m. on the Mormon Trailhead about a mile up the trail, according to authorities.
Phoenix park rangers first noticed an empty vehicle parked at South Mountain Park on Friday. The vehicle remained there overnight and was towed Sunday, leading police to discover that the vehicle belonged to a man in Tempe. After Tempe police unsuccessfully tried to locate the man at his home, Phoenix police reported the man as a missing person.
Rescue teams with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office searched the area all Monday and found his body in the early hours of Tuesday. The investigation prompted a brief closure of the popular south Phoenix hiking spot.

Investigators say there were no immediate signs of foul play.
The hiker’s cause of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner.
This is the second hiker who has died on South Mountain in the last two weeks. On June 5, Gilbert Ortiz died after falling 40 feet on the mountain.
