According to court paperwork, 29-year-old Christopher Everhart is accused of lighting three separate fires at the Alta Vista Village Apartments near 39th and Grand avenues.

The first fire occurred on March 4 in the leasing office’s drop box. Everhart allegedly admitted to lighting a piece of paper on fire and intentionally putting it into the drop box after he was given eviction paperwork.

On April 1, a fire was started in the complex’s laundry room. Everhart allegedly admitted to pouring Fireball whiskey into a trash can and lighting it on fire due to receiving the eviction notice.

Then on June 8, firefighters responded to a fire inside an apartment unit at Alta Vista Village. The fire resulted in a total loss of that unit and displaced other residents.

Court documents say Everhart and his family lived at the affected unit, and their locks were being changed during the eviction process.

Surveillance video reportedly shows Everhart, his wife and his mother-in-law leaving the unit just minutes after the fire was reported.

Everhart allegedly admitted to police that he poured Fireball whiskey on two sofas and two mattresses in the unit and set them on fire with a cigarette. Police say he claimed he was upset at the apartment’s management for evicting his family.

Police say Everhart claimed his wife and mother-in-law were involved in the most recent arson incident, and charges may be submitted against both of the women at a later time.

Everhart faces three counts of arson of an occupied structure.
