Mesa man charged with manslaughter after deadly fentanyl overdose in Prescott

PRESCOTT, AZ (AZFamily) — An alleged drug dealer from Mesa faces multiple felonies in connection with the fatal fentanyl overdose of a man last year in Prescott, Yavapai County officials announced Wednesday.

Last month, 33-year-old Kyle William Guanell was arrested following a year-long investigation. He’s suspected of selling fentanyl to a man who was found dead in March 2025 at a Prescott motel while caring for his two children.

Guanell faces several charges, including manslaughter, the sale of lethal fentanyl, and transportation of narcotic drugs. He’s currently being held at a Yavapai County jail.

“Drug dealers will be held accountable for overdose deaths,” Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes said in a news release. “They knowingly sell a deadly drug and should be held responsible. We will tirelessly pursue justice to ensure they face the full weight of the criminal justice system.”

Arizona recently increased penalties for those suspected of selling fentanyl that leads to another person’s death, making it a Class 2 felony.
