Glendale police said they were notified around 7 a.m. Tuesday that the Arizona Humane Society wanted to meet at a home near Northern and 59th avenues regarding concerns about the dogs.

Two investigators had supposedly visited the home a few days earlier on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Investigators said they found feces, filthy conditions and heavy cobwebs throughout the home and garage, which they said appeared to show years of neglect.

Officials said they found five dogs living outside in the backyard with no food or clean water. The only water they had access to was in small plastic pools filled with mold and algae.

Authorities said they also found homemade, rundown kennels built along the side of the house.

Officials said the makeshift structures were not approved and were illegal. They also found a swamp cooler that had been wired improperly and was being used to try to cool an open area.

Inside the living room, investigators said they found 15 Dalmatian puppies in a clear plastic bin. The surface temperature inside the bin was measured at 105 degrees.

One person inside the home told investigators he planned to take the puppies to a veterinarian after the visit, officials said.

Investigators said they found several serious safety concerns, including electrical violations, blocked exits and illegal structures. Because of that, they contacted the city’s Building Safety Abatement Program and asked for the home to be declared unsafe to live in.

The Arizona Humane Society took custody of 19 Dalmatians, one Lab-Great Pyrenees mix and two shorthaired rabbits.

Five individuals are under investigation and could face animal cruelty charges.

The case remains open.
