The vandalism happened at Maico Restaurant Mexican Food near East 22nd Street and South Park Avenue late Tuesday, June 2. Security camera footage shows a man smashing lights, breaking cameras and placing a tire on top of the owner’s truck.
Ramon Becerra, the restaurant owner, said he woke up Wednesday morning to find the damage.
The Tucson area has seen a rash of break-ins and senseless acts of vandalism over the last few months.

“I said what happened here, and I was sorta surprised, and I started looking more and more,” Becerra said.
The security camera video, which lasted for multiple minutes, captured a clear image of the man responsible.
Becerra said the incident was particularly concerning because his home is connected to the restaurant.
“It’s a family living here. It’s a family business. That’s my wife, my daughter, my granddaughter working here,” he said. “It’s scary because it’s a pretty tough guy.”
Becerra said he expects fixing the damaged security cameras, lights, and his car windshield to cost hundreds of dollars.

“Terrible. Because the business is too slow, plus now that kind of problem is gonna be more expenses,” he said.
The vandalism comes as business has already gone down nearly 50% in the last year following long-term road construction in the area that Becerra said makes the restaurant harder to access. Business also slows down in the summer.
“Now the employees I got to let them go because it slowed the business,” Becerra said.
Becerra said he is hoping someone who recognizes the suspect will see the video and report it.
“This is not good for me because probably he gonna come back again, and I don’t want that to happen,” he said.
Becerra filed a report with the Tucson Police Department this morning.
In a statement to 13 News, the TPD said officers collected evidence and are working to identify the suspect. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to call 88-CRIME or go to www.88Crime.org.
