MASON CITY, Iowa. (KTTC/Gray News) – A private investigator in Iowa believes he has identified a suspect in the 1995 disappearance of morning TV anchor Jodi Huisentruit.

More than 30 years ago, Huisentruit vanished while heading to work at KIMT-TV in Mason City. Investigators believe she was taken from her apartment parking lot between 4:15 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., after she called a producer to say she was running late.

Her belongings and a bent key were later found outside her apartment building. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Private investigator Steve Ridge said he spoke with a woman who claims she had a relationship with a suspect in the months after Huisentruit disappeared. Ridge said the woman told him the suspect was frequently followed by authorities and became frustrated.

“In a moment of exasperation or anger, he was slamming the steering wheel and saying, ‘I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it,’ but he finally said, ‘I did it,’” Ridge said.

In a statement to KTTC, Ridge said the woman provided extensive documentation to support her account, including dates and times, photos, financial records, ticket stubs and handwritten communication that he said corroborate the relationship and the alleged confession.

Ridge did not identify the suspect or say whether the person is still alive. He said he has shared his findings with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

“I have very high confidence in the special agent in charge of this case with the DCI, and I’m confident that he will take it seriously and run with it,” Ridge said.

Ridge said his pledged $100,000 reward for information leading to Huisentruit’s remains is in place through June 27, the 31st anniversary of her disappearance.
