PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Officers with the Phoenix Police Department shot and killed a man who had a knife and was not cooperating with authorities on Sunday morning, according to officials with the department.

Officers were called to an alley near 18th Avenue and Cheryl Drive, just south of Peoria Avenue, around 11 a.m. for reports that a man armed with a knife was trying to harm himself, Phoenix officials said.
Officers found the man, who officials said would not cooperate with their commands, and that’s when officers fired their weapons, hitting the man.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. No officers were injured.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials are investigating the shooting. More information is expected to be released Sunday afternoon.
