GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A suspect is dead after Glendale police officers were involved in a shooting and a violent standoff Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Officers were called to a house on Nicolet Avenue, north of Glendale Avenue, near 75th Avenue, because a man, later identified as 59-year-old Jeffery Peters, violated an order of protection and was trespassing around noon, police said.

The suspect’s adult daughter called 911 and was scared, police told Arizona’s Family.
Police said Peters and his daughter share the house, but he is not supposed to be there due to the order of protection.
When the first officers knocked on the door, he gave them a hard time, and that’s when the standoff started. A police spokesperson said Peters was “very anti-police” and had weapons at the house.
Eventually, SWAT was called to clear the home, investigators said. When the team arrived, Peters would not come out. Police said Peters shot at officers with his rifle.
“We were met with gunfire at every opportunity,” a police spokesman said.
Investigators said the gunshots damaged two police cars, and Peters shot down two drones. The gunfire also heavily damaged a SWAT vehicle.

One officer suffered minor injuries.
Once it was safe to go inside the home, Peters was confirmed dead. It’s unclear if he shot himself or if police killed him.
Avondale police will lead the investigation as part of the West Valley Critical Incident Response Team.
This marked the 30th officer-involved shooting in the Phoenix area and the 55th police shooting in the state so far this year, according to Arizona’s Family numbers.
