TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Casino del Sol Stadium is getting a series of upgrades ahead of the Arizona Wildcats’ football season opener, including a new sound system, new lighting and changes to premium seating options.

Athletic Director Desireé Reed-Francois said sound quality was the top concern on fan surveys for two consecutive years.
“The number one thing we heard from our fans was that the sound was so inconsistent. It was really loud in some sections, really quiet in others, you couldn’t hear things on the field,” Reed-Francois said.
New sound system installed
The athletic department brought in the same company responsible for the sound system at the World Cup to install the new setup.
“The same people who did the sound for the World Cup are the same people who came out and put in our new sound system,” Reed-Francois said.
Lighting and atmosphere changes
New lights have been added along the stadium, with the athletic department aiming to enhance the experience during night games.
“We have at least I think over the last five years we’ve averaged about four night games a year and with knowing that we wanted to have the cool lights and be able to turn off the lights and have the cool lights and the pyrotechnic feel and be able to create a great gameday atmosphere,” Reed-Francois said.
Sideline switch and Zona Zoo update
New tabletops and premium seating options have also been added. The Wildcats’ sideline is also moving to the other side of the stadium — into the shade — while the Zona Zoo student section remains in place.

Reed-Francois said the move serves two purposes: keeping the student section facing opponents and limiting what opposing teams can observe.
“The students provide an incredible gameday atmosphere, we want them to make sure they welcome our opponents, so we flipped the benches,” Reed-Francois said.
“And then quite frankly, that’s the television angle and not saying there’s a competitive advantage or gamesmanship going on, but we don’t necessarily want our opponents to see our sidelines for every single game,” she said.
Season ticket sales are up 20 percent this year. The Wildcats open the season against NAU on Sept. 5.
