FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — A chemical spill from a corroded line at Flagstaff’s Purina plant caused multiple people to report feeling sick on Tuesday, officials said.

The Flagstaff Fire Department said it was called to the Nestle Purina manufacturing plant for a hazardous materials situation.
When firefighters arrived, they reported finding an active chemical leak. A few people at the facility reported feeling sick and took themselves to the hospital before first responders arrived.
A hazmat team was called and found that a chemical distribution system mixed two chemicals that are not normally mixed, which caused corrosion in a distribution line.
The fire department said an estimated 10 gallons of chemicals spilled onto the ground from the corroded line.

The leak was later repaired, and Flagstaff Fire said hazmat crews are trained specifically for situations like this.
