TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – West Nile cases are surging across Arizona, and that now includes Cochise County.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, Cochise County has confirmed two cases and has a third probable case, all in the Sierra Vista area.
“Cochise County Health and Social Services is actively addressing the situation with care and urgency,” the county said in a release. “We want to assure our community that your well-being is our top priority, and we will continue to provide timely updates as we move forward.”
The news comes as Pima County announced that cases are on the rise there, and Santa Cruz County announced its first likely case of the season.

TIPS FOR AVOIDING GETTING SICK
- Use an EPA-registered mosquito repellent
- Wear long, loose-fitting shirts and pants when possible
- Avoid being outdoors from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active
- Use intact screens on windows and doors
- Dump or remove standing water around homes and properties
- Clean gutters and repair leaking outdoor faucets
- Cover containers and other items that can collect water
- Check your property for places where water can collect (gutters, containers, pools, tires)
