On Friday, the delivery nurse who’s now a New York Times best-selling author is speaking to students at the Arizona College of Nursing’s Tempe campus.

Hamilton says she wants to help prepare the students to be an important resource for parents in delivery rooms.

“I’m so excited that the Arizona College of Nursing has invited me out to talk to not just labor and delivery nursing students, but every kind of nursing student,” Hamilton said.

The labor and delivery nurse and ER veteran with 4.8 million followers on TikTok tells students about her struggles during nursing school.

“My message to them is that it’s just a moment in time, and very soon they will actually be getting paid to do the wonderful things that they’re doing right now,” Hamilton said. “And to just remember the reason why that they wanted to be a nurse.”

Hamilton’s book “Birth Vibes” was released this month and became a No. 1 New York Times best-seller, which she says was completely unexpected for a pregnancy book.

Hamilton said her social media presence started by accident when she was trying to figure out what the plus button was at the bottom of the TikTok screen.

“I started seeing that there was a lot of people online showing their birth stories, and I wanted to make sure that they were having accurate information,” Hamilton said. “And their birth stories actually helped navigate how I was showing up as their labor and delivery nurse.”

Hamilton said she uses humor to make patients comfortable in the delivery room.

“When someone comes in labor, I want to be the most embarrassing person in the room to take away some of that embarrassment and shame for them,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton said she still works at bedsides in North Carolina and is scheduled to return to work the day after her Tempe appearance.

“This is all fun and everything. It’s so amazing. But my favorite thing to do is to be with patients,” Hamilton said.
