Court documents say the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at The Light of the World church on Hatcher Road, near Cave Creek Road.

Investigators say Justin Blevins got inside the church and then hid. Inside, he is accused of damaging a bathroom, including pulling wood paneling off the walls, and disabling interior security cameras.

Police were called to the church, but Blevins did not come out when officers ordered him to, according to court documents.

A police dog was sent in to help search the building. Officers reported hearing and smelling a substance being sprayed, and paint was later found on the dog’s fur, court records say.

Officers eventually went into the church and arrested Blevins, according to the documents.

Afterward, officers and a victim walked through the building and saw damage in the bathroom that the victim said was not there before, including wood paneling pulled off and thrown around the room, the documents say.

Court documents also say Blevins repeatedly gave officers a fake name. Investigators later identified him using fingerprint records.

Blevins is facing multiple charges, including burglary, resisting arrest, harming a service animal and obstruction.
