COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS/Gray News) – A former church treasurer is accused of stealing more than $400,000 from the church.

Latrise Seward is accused of using her access to the church’s bank accounts to make unauthorized personal purchases totaling $402,655.45 between Jan. 1, 2018, and Aug. 29, 2025, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Seward, who admitted to making the purchases, worked as the treasurer of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church.

She is currently in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
