Tempe woman suspected of DUI in I-10 crash that killed Wisconsin man

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Tempe woman is suspected of being drunk or high when she crashed into another vehicle on Interstate 10 near west Phoenix, leaving a man dead and a woman seriously injured.

The crash happened just before noon on Sunday.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Andie Stehley, was speeding in a Kia sedan down the interstate when she changed lanes and hit a Toyota Highlander, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said Monday.

The impact caused the Toyota to hit a Scion SUV, then spin and crash into an exit sign pole, according to DPS.

Traffic cameras in the area showed firefighters using the Jaws of Life to open the Toyota SUV and pull out the driver, who was pronounced dead.

DPS identified the victim as Michael Byington of Wisconsin. There was also a woman in the passenger seat of the Toyota who sustained serious injuries, according to DPS.

Stehley was arrested and booked into Maricopa County Jail early Monday.

She faces charges of second-degree homicide, endangerment and criminal damage.

The driver of the Scion was not injured, according to DPS.

The three-vehicle crash closed part of I-10 for hours on Sunday afternoon.
