Around 10:45 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired at a home near 3rd Street and Centre Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a 56-year-old Ewell Mccrae lying in a front yard after being shot. Despite life-saving measures, he died on the scene.
Police said they later received calls about the suspect arriving at a nearby church before he eventually returned to the scene, where he was detained for questioning before being arrested.
The suspect, identified as Roger Mccrae, 57, is the victim’s cousin.
Police believe there was an argument at the home before the shooting, though the investigation into what exactly led up to it is ongoing.
Officers have not been able to find the weapon used in the shooting.
Witnesses told police they saw Roger Mccrae shoot Ewell Mccrae with a pistol, drive off in a pickup truck and later return on foot without the pistol, leading police to believe he either stashed the weapon or got rid of it.
Roger Mccrae denied any involvement in the shooting or owning a firearm.
A witness at the home claimed that Roger Mccrae arrived in a white Chevrolet Silverado and engaged Ewell “in a verbal and physical altercation,” according to the police report. The witness told police that Roger Mccrae punched Ewell Mccrae in the face and that Ewell Mccrae threw a power tool at Roger Mccrae and missed.

Roger Mccrae then grabbed a black pistol from the pickup truck and shot Ewell Mccrae once in the chest, the witness said.
Another witness said she saw the two cousins argue and later heard the gunshot, according to the police report.
Roger Mccrae faces a handful of charges, including one count of second-degree murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
His bond is set for $1 million and he’s due in court next Monday.
