Evacuations ordered for fast-moving Jones Fire near US 60 in Wickenburg

WICKENBURG, AZ (AZFamily) — Emergency management officials have ordered evacuations due to a brush fire burning northwest of the Valley.

Maricopa County Emergency Management has issued a GO status, calling for residents to evacuate immediately along US 93 to Zabel Mine Road, from the railroad tracks west of US 60 to the east of US 60 as the Jones Fire burns in Wickenburg.

Evacuees can report to Wickenburg High School on Vulture Mine Road.

The Jones Fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. Monday along US 60 (Wickenburg Way) at milepost 111 in Wickenburg. It’s unclear if the fire is near any structures, but ADOT announced that the highway is shut down in both directions.

The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management reports that its crews are also responding to the Jones Fire, which is currently estimated at 15 acres. Officials say the fire is burning along both sides of the river bottom and the highway.

Multiple aircraft have also been requested to respond.

Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers are assisting Wickenburg police officers with traffic control, and APS has shut off power east of the 60.

Residents in the impacted area are urged to gather items, such as prescription medications, identification and other important documents.
