Tucson Police searching for hit-and-run driver after pedestrian killed

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Department is looking for a driver they say hit a pedestrian, and then left the scene.

The TPD says the crash happened about 12:30 this morning, May 11, near 12th and Ajo Way.

56-year-old Luis Eduardo Garcia died at the scene.

Police say evidence indicates Garcia tried to cross South 12th Avenue south of West District Street when he was hit by a vehicle driving south.

Police believe the vehicle was traveling above the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit.

Garcia was not in a crosswalk.

The TPD says the primary focus of the investigation at this time is to identify and locate the vehicle and driver who left scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or may have any additional information is urged to contact 911 or call 88-CRIME.
