TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – As voters across Southern Arizona prepare to cast their ballots this November, Green Party candidate Gary Swing is offering an alternative vision for United States House Arizona District 6.

Appearing on Tucson Now, Swing discussed his platform centered on anti-war activism, aggressive reductions in federal military spending, and significant overhauls to the nation’s electoral and immigration systems, with host Makayla Goos.
Swing, who has previously campaigned on the ballot in both Colorado and Arizona, emphasized his long-standing roots in peace and environmental movements.
Despite the Southern Arizona economy’s ties to defense contracting and operations at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Swing advocated for cutting the federal military budget by 90% and reinvesting those funds into domestic priorities such as education, sustainable infrastructure, and green energy.

On immigration, Swing called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and advocated for broad “freedom of migration.” He argued that border policy should prioritize human rights, compassionate processes for asylum seekers, and legal avenues for residency and work, criticizing current enforcement tactics and detention facilities along the border.
Addressing concerns about third-party viability and the potential of splitting votes in a traditionally two-party system, Swing dismissed the “spoiler” label. Instead, he made the case for widespread electoral reform, urging the adoption of proportional representation, multi-member congressional districts, and ranked-choice voting to ensure smaller political parties can secure representation.
In his closing remarks, Swing encouraged Southern Arizonans to research all candidates via independent voter guides, while pushing for updates to state election laws that govern how minor parties nominate candidates on the ballot.
