TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Students, parents and staff are moving in Wildcats at the University of Arizona as move-in day gets underway on campus.

Move-in will continue each day through Saturday until around 4 p.m., as new and returning students arrive on campus.
University of Arizona President Suresh Garimella said move-in day is significant for the campus.
“It’s one of the most important days on campus, other than commencement when we’re celebrating the accomplishments of all the students it’s just wonderful to have them start,” Garimella said.
Students and families react to move-in day
Incoming freshman Emmersen Romero said her family is supportive of her transition.
“They’re excited to see me get out of the town I’ve lived in my entire life and excited to see me spread my wings,” Romero said.
Brian Euclide, a parent dropping off students, said the day carries emotional weight.
“It’s an emotional I have three girls all off at college and I have twin daughters joining the university here as freshmen. but it’s a beautiful day so you have to be excited, right?” Euclide said.
When asked whether the move-in process gets easier, Euclide said no.
“This process is well orchestrated. Great people, bottle of water in hand. Yeah it’s pretty nice,” Euclide said.
Housing director offers move-in guidance
The University of Arizona’s housing director said the biggest mistake she sees during move-in is families bringing too much stuff. Every year, parents carry items back to their cars that don’t fit in dorm rooms.

The University of Arizona has a move-in day plan intended to get vehicles in and out of the parking lot in under an hour.
Dana Robbins-Murray, Director of Administrative Services for Housing & Residential Life at the University of Arizona, described the bins available to help students move belongings.
“So we offer what we call bins which are large cardboard bins on wheels and they allow students to put their stuff from their car into the bins and take it up to their room hopefully making it a little bit easier,” Robbins-Murray said.
Robbins-Murray said families are asked to use designated unloading zones.
“Our biggest thing is asking people to go to their unloading zone for their dorm unload in about a 30-minute timeframe and then move their car to the parking garage and that way we allow time for the next student to come in and unload,” Robbins-Murray said.
Resources available during move-in
Resident assistants will be stationed at each dorm to provide direction and assistance.
Garimella said students should ask for help when needed.
“Seek out help if you need it. Don’t wait too long. If you’re having trouble registering or any issues ask a RA, ask a staff volunteer here, reach out to your faculty,” Garimella said.
