PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has died after he was struck by a car while crossing a major Phoenix road early Friday morning.

At about 2 a.m., first responders were called to the crash on 7th Avenue between Indianola and Whitton avenues, just south of Indian School Road. Officers arrived and found a man seriously hurt in the roadway, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. His name has not been publicly released, but police say he was 44 years old.
Authorities said the man was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Police said the driver left the scene, unaware of what had happened. After arriving home and noticing damage to the car, the driver returned to the scene to speak with officers.
