GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) — Authorities in South Carolina announced a new arrest Wednesday in the ongoing investigation involving a church and its affiliated school.

Georgetown County Sheriff Carter Weaver said investigators arrested Michael Anthony Fields, who serves as the director of operations and missions at Pawleys Island Community Church. He was also responsible for campus security and student safety at Pawleys Island Christian Academy.
Fields is charged with unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing a child harm.
Fields was booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center and is scheduled for a bond hearing on July 30.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is now in its third week and centers on how church leadership allegedly allowed Warren Perry, described by investigators as a convicted sex offender, to volunteer on campus and be around children for years.
Authorities said multiple agencies are assisting in the investigation, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

Investigators said they are continuing to conduct interviews and examine forensic digital evidence taken from devices used by church leaders. The sheriff’s office said specialized forensic interviews have been conducted with students who may have attended Pawleys Island Christian Academy, but those interviews have not resulted in findings of criminal sexual conduct to date.
Perry was arrested on July 20, and his probation hearing was held Wednesday. The sheriff’s office said he was found in violation of probation, and the case was bound over to General Sessions.
Also arrested July 20 were former church pastor Don Williams, church administrator Ginny Williams and former Pawleys Island Christian Academy director Jennifer “Niki” Howard, the sheriff’s office said. They are charged with obstruction, criminal conspiracy and unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing a child harm.
