ROOSEVELT, AZ (AZFamily) — A Tucson man drowned at Roosevelt Lake northeast of the Valley during the weekend, and his body was not found until days later by a boater.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office said Ruperto Cervantes, 37, jumped from a boat into the water to cool off just before 7 p.m. Sunday.
A witness said he started to struggle, went underwater and never came back up.
Deputies marked the area where he went into the water, but it was too dark to search for him.
Deputies, detectives and Tonto Rim Search and Rescue members looked for him Monday morning. They asked for more resources, including the DPS helicopter and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Underwater ROV, Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue unit. Search teams continued to look throughout the week.

On Thursday, a boater found Cervantes’ body in the water. No foul play is suspected.
