PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman is fighting for her life, and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in a north Phoenix neighborhood early Monday morning.

Shortly before 6 a.m., officers received reports of a shooting near 35th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. Police arrived and found a woman seriously hurt with a gunshot wound.
Officers quickly got the woman out of the crime scene to awaiting Phoenix firefighters, who then rushed her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities set up a large containment area in the neighborhood to search for the alleged shooter. The suspect was located and taken into custody with the help of Phoenix police’s air unit, K-9 officers, special assignment unit investigators and detectives.
Arizona’s Family crews witnessed numerous Phoenix patrol vehicles outside of a home and some officers putting up crime tape to block the street entrance.

Authorities are at the scene working to determine what led up to the shooting. The area is expected to be closed for the next several hours as police gather additional evidence.
