DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (TMX) – A driver in the metro Atlanta area was recently clocked traveling at an eye-watering 172 mph, authorities said.

“172 MPH. That’s not a typo,” the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook alongside an image of the law enforcement radar that recorded the motorist’s speed.
“At that speed, a driver covers the length of a football field in well under a second — and has almost no chance of reacting to anything ahead of them,” the sheriff’s office warned.

The sheriff’s office warned motorists to slow down, buckle up and drive sober or hand over the keys.
“Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year, and we want every one of you back home safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
