TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A man who officials say caused a deadly chain-reaction crash on an East Valley freeway almost two years ago, then fled the scene, was arrested this month.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) said troopers arrested Deone Xavier Holland, 37, after a long investigation. He’ll face charges of leaving the scene of a fatal collision and endangerment.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2024, on westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain, adjacent to the Scottsdale Road off-ramp.
DPS said a Dodge Journey going 96 mph rear-ended a Honda Pilot, causing the Honda to block lanes of the freeway. About 30 seconds later, an Audi Q7 hit the disabled Honda, and five minutes after that, a Ford Focus crashed into the Audi, according to DPS.
Rachel Marie Moss, 55, of Chandler was killed in the crash. Two other people were seriously injured.

Vehicle Crimes Unit detectives spent nearly two years reviewing surveillance video, physical evidence, vehicle data, witness statements and other evidence, which ultimately led them to identifying Holland as the driver of the Dodge Journey.
DPS said Holland left the scene of the crash and did not call for help.
Holland was arrested on Sept. 3 on a grand jury warrant.
