HEBER-OVERGAARD, AZ (AZFamily) — Four people are dead and two are hurt after a head-on crash in eastern Arizona on Labor Day.

The Forest Lakes Fire District said two vehicles crashed head-on along State Route 260 at mile marker 300, just west of Heber-Overgaard. The crash happened around 12:31 p.m. Monday, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Four people were dead at the scene, and two others were flown to hospitals in the Valley, officials said.
SR 260 was closed in both directions for several hours, causing traffic to back up. Both directions of the highway reopened around 8 p.m.

The people who died in the crash have not been publicly identified. The crash is still under investigation, and DPS said impairment could have been a factor.
