The Valdosta Police Department said officers responded to the home Sunday morning after receiving a call about a man threatening to harm himself.

When officers arrived, they heard a gunshot inside the house and forced entry, police said. Once inside, they found an unharmed child and two adults with gunshot wounds. The child was immediately removed from the house by an officer.

The adults were a 29-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man. The man appeared to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The bodies were taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s medical examiner’s office for further evaluation.

Police did not clarify the child’s relationship to the adults.

Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan offered support to the family and loved ones of the victim.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of the victim. This senseless tragedy has not only left a family grieving, but a young child is now without a parent,” Manahan said. “The effects of domestic violence extend far beyond those directly involved, leaving lasting emotional wounds for families, friends, and the entire community.”
