Sheriff, Guthrie family reflect on 5 months since Nancy’s disappearance

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – 151 days.

That’s how long it’s been since Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Catalina Foothills home. While there have been lots of leads – people to question, evidence to analyze, and tips to investigate – so far, there is no resolution.

It has been an excruciating five months for the Guthrie family – and a frustrating stretch both for law enforcement and for a community waiting for answers.

Today in an exclusive one-on-one interview, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told 13 News anchor Brooke Wagner the investigation is still very active. What *is happening right now? Leads are still coming in, and evidence is still under the microscope.

“Especially when you throw in genealogy – now, you’ve got… this may not be the bad guy, but this person might be the bad guy’s relative three times over,” said Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, “So, that has to be broken down to see if this might be someone of interest to us.”

In the last week, there’s also been international media coverage around “notes.” Reporting on real notes, fake notes, red herrings. At 13 News, we have chosen not to broadcast other outlets’ reporting on stories that can’t be independently confirmed. This is not just a story – there is a family in our community at the center of this. Our own sources do not feel comfortable publicly validating or ruling out any notes received at this time. But for the family, every communication brings the possibility for hope.

We heard directly from the family for the first time. When reached for comment, Savannah Guthrie told 13 News, “It is five months of agony and unending trauma for our family. There is not a moment that goes by that we aren’t actively trying to find our mom. We thank the people of Tucson for holding her in their hearts, as well as both the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless work on behalf of our family. Bring her home.”

The Sheriff told 13 News that’s why every lead needs to be handled with great care.
