Northbound SR 87 reopens near Fountain Hills after Picadilla Fire

FOUNTAIN HILLS, AZ (AZFamily) — A new brush fire led to a brief state highway closure east of the Valley Wednesday morning.

The Picadilla Fire broke out shortly before 10 a.m. along State Route 87 near milepost 209, roughly 20 miles north of Fountain Hills.

It’s estimated at approximately two acres, and crews from the U.S. Forest Service and the Fort McDowell Fire Department responded. Forest Service officials say forward progression was stopped a short time later.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed the northbound lanes of SR 87 as firefighters worked to extinguish the wildfire. The right lane reopened shortly before noon, while the left lane opened around 1:45 p.m.
