At about 6:20 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to calls of a crash involving two cars near 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road.

The driver of the BMW hit a woman driving a Toyota Camry, witnesses told police. The woman was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries,” Phoenix police said.

Witnesses told police that the BMW driver fled the scene.

Officers then learned that the same driver had hit a woman who was walking before crashing into a fence. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died, police said.

The driver of the BMW also left that scene, police said. Officers checked the home where the car was registered and found the driver, who had serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital and, once medically cleared, will be booked on hit-and-run and other related charges, police said.
