Jennifer Joyce, 28, was arrested in connection with the alleged crime.
On Tuesday, around noontime, officers were called to a crash near Sarival Avenue and Yuma Road in Goodyear. Police say a white Jeep Compass ran off the road, hit the sidewalk and went over the median. The vehicle eventually landed on the opposite side of the road, according to investigators.
A witness said he was sitting at the intersection when he saw the Compass drive over the curb into the rocks, hit signs and go into the median. Court paperwork states Joyce was driving for Uber and had a mother and her two-year-old child in the car at the time of the crash.
Officers spoke with the driver, Joyce, who “appeared to be incoherent” and was speaking slowly, according to court paperwork. The officer noticed she had glossy, watery red eyes and couldn’t tell authorities what had happened. Court documents state that Joyce told police that all she remembered was “being on the opposite side of the intersection.”
Police did a records check and discovered that Joyce’s license was suspended, and she had two previous DUI charges.
Officers had Joyce perform several field sobriety tests. Court documents state that her eyes did not follow smoothly during the horizontal gaze test, and she had to steady herself while trying to perform the walk and turn test. During the one-leg stand test, police say she swayed and put her foot down multiple times, performing it incorrectly.

After the tests, Joyce was taken into custody for suspected DUI. As officers searched her vehicle, they reportedly found a “white powdery substance” inside a small Ziploc bag. A lab test revealed that the substance tested positive for ketamine, according to court documents.
Joyce was booked on three counts of aggravated DUI, two counts of endangerment, one count of driving with a suspended license, one count of criminal damage and one count of dangerous drug possession.
