Bicyclist killed in crash at Euclid, University in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Department says a bicyclist has died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday morning, May 9.

The TPD says the crash happened in the intersection of of Euclid and University.

Police say 76-year-old Randolph Daniel Chavez was hit by a Honda Accord and taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police say the driver of the Accord was not hurt.

The TPD says evidence suggests the Honda was heading north on Euclid Avenue at University Boulevard.

Chavez was riding a bicycle west on University Boulevard where he and the Honda collided.

Police say Chavez was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

There were no indications the driver of the Honda was impaired at the time of the crash.

Detectives are now working to confirm the traffic light sequence at Euclid Avenue and University Boulevard when the crash happened.

The investigation is ongoing.
